CICCC Update-22 April 2014 Meeting
Sponsorship of Community Projects
The Committee considered two applications for community grants, from the Saltwater Childcare Centre and the Hyde Street Youth Band, and recommended that both applications be approved by Terminals Pty Ltd.
Greenhouse Gas Reporting
Carlo Fasolino, Terminals' Manager, Victoria and South Australia, amended the reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG Emissions in tonnes of CO2e) in the Operations Report provided for February and March 2014. By providing separate bar charts for total GHG emissions over the past ten years, and for tonnes of GHG emissions per tonnes of throughput over the past ten years, a clear picture is presented of the changes in GHG emissions over time, and the effect of the plant throughput on GHG emissions.
Critical changes to GHG emissions include the phasing out of the carbon beds, the use of a high temperature gas-fed combustor to treat benzene and acrylate emissions which commenced operations in 2002, with other waste streams being added progressively.
Additional environmental impacts avoided by the new regime include the generation of liquid waste from the carbon beds (which was transported to Sydney and treated there), and gases associated with road tanker loading.
Theo Pykoulis, who represents the City of Maribyrnong, advised that the Shelter-in-place brochure would be revised jointly by Council and the MFB, and re-issued to all homes within the Municipality and close to Major Hazard Facilities. Theo asked members of the Committee to comment on the guidelines, offering any suggestions for improvement.
Next meeting of the CICCC
The next meeting will be held at the Maribyrnong Municipal Offices on Tuesday 12 August 2014 at 3pm.
